WHY HUA PARAKORE "Pure Products" BEES ?
The Hua Parakore genetic heritage of our Far North bees has all the qualities required to work optimally in New Zealand; these are the Hua Parakore bees. Our organic bees are like our community: peaceful and welcoming. Over generations and through biodynamic selection, our beloved collaborators have evolved to adapt to their environment.
The Far North lives up to its name, and the bee colonies thrive on all year long windy and subtropical conditions. Each Manukā flowering must be optimised by the colony for all year long brooding and raise their queen as best as possible during the dry season.
The queen bees of Far North have adapted to these coastal conditions and, their morphological and biometric characteristics are local. Their adaptation over centuries from european bees (mainly italian bee) has enabled them to raise queen bees with a local ecotype that is well suited to their environment:
- Ability to optimise short, intense periods of Manukā honey flow;
- Quality of hive cleaning and honey production for all year long brooding;
- Absence of disease and selection of varroa-resistant colonies ensuring healthy queens;
- Collaboration and monitoring of queen bee lines with beekeepers in the Far North;
- Swarm settlement for over 50 years in the Far North and queen monitoring for private beekeepers.

OUR PURPOSE
Pollen and nectar for all. Over the past decade, beekeeping practices have evolved towards more diversified work, particularly in breeding, in order to cope with the excessive mortality of colonies and the gradual decline in the life expectancy of queen bees. As a result, more and more of you are getting involved in breeding, which is essential for the good performance of colonies. Implementing your own breeding programme will directly improve the production and health of your hives.
Given the success of our naturally mated queen bees in the Far North, we would like to develop an innovative concept for queen bee breeders: the sale of Hua Parakore/Biodynamics queen bees. Beekeeping practices are changing, and our profession must also evolve. If you understand the importance of queen breeding, you also understand the need to work with queens that have been bred in accordance with the intimate laws of nature and living organisms. APISELECT is therefore committed to producing Hua Parakore F0 and F1 queens, selected, adapted, mated and bred in Mills Farm apiaries
OUR QUALITY
For your breeding work and the healthy development of your bee population, we continue to breed F1 Hua Paakore queens, tested over an egg-laying cycle, and carry out innovative biodynamic breeding work. However, we are now focusing our efforts on providing queens that have been tested for longer in nuclei colonies in order to also assess the quality of the bees produced based on production criteria (honey, pollen, propolis), hygiene and disease resistance. Mills Farm production of Hua Parakore selected breeder F0 queens is a guarantee of quality for the sustainability of our station, but also to guarantee you pure Far North breeding stock and reduce the often excessive hybridisation of your bee population.
OUR COMMITMENT
Our desire to produce organic Hua Parakore bred queen bees goes hand in hand with our goals of discovering and protecting wild bees. The honeybee is a highly symbolic species in our society. Beyond the motivation that drives some people to set up hives without being beekeepers and others to believe that a hive can really contribute to biodiversity, it is important to consider the consequences of this type of action, which is very popular in our time, in order to make the right choices for bee conservation. It is not only beekeepers who will save the biodiversity of our countryside, but all those who participate in the protection of the other thousand species of wildbees in New Zealand (20,000 worldwide), to count only the varieties of bees… So this spring, take the time to offer these seasonal workers food and shelter. Honey is good, but flowers are even better.
